The University of Rostock offers a diverse, varied and demanding job in a tradition-conscious, yet innovative, modern and family-friendly university in a lively city by the sea.
At the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Institute of Physics, Quantum Technology lab, we are filling the following position, subject to allocation of funds, at the earliest possible date on a temporary basis for the duration of the project "Interface engineering of luminescent defects in 2D materials“ within the Collaborative Research Center 1477 "Light-Matter Interactions at Interfaces" on 31.12.2025
Thanks to the approval of the first funding period by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), the collaborative research center 1477 has been established at the Institute of Physics. For the sub-project W07 „Interface engineering of luminescent defects in 2D materials“ we are looking for a researcher to work on various aspects of light-matter interaction.
You will be spearheading an effort to explore a class of color defect in 2D materials with the aim of scientific qualification (doctorate). This work will comprise 1) engineering of novel defects by encapsulation of fluorescent molecules into Boron Nitride multilayers. 2) study of novel defects and exploration of novel schemes for optical spin readout. 3) use of 2D defects in scanning near-field microscopy (image below). All aspects will involve strong collaboration with other members of the quantum technology group and other groups at the institute.
Equal opportunities are important to us. We welcome applications from suitable severely disabled persons or persons of equal status. We aim to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching and therefore encourage relevantly qualified women to apply. We welcome applications from people of other nationalities or with a migration background.
The temporal limitation of the employment relationship is based on § 2 (1) WissZeitVG.
If desired, the staff council can be consulted during the selection process. Please enclose an informal request for this with your application documents.
We look forward to receiving your online application with complete, informative documents (cover letter, resume, diploma with indication of final grade, a copy of your most recent thesis) by 23.05.2022 at the latest. Only applications received via our application portal and containing all requested documents will be considered.
Unfortunately, application and travel costs cannot be covered by the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
