THESE ARE YOUR TASKS:

  • research in the field of ocean engineering with the aim of scientific qualification (doctorate)
  • carry out theoretical and experimental research in the areas of renewable marine energies, marine research technology, underwater technology, deep-sea engineering, and offshore aquaculture
  • supervise laboratories and large-scale research equipment, including further development and new design of specialized test rigs
  • scientific teaching, primarily in English, in the amount of approx. 4 semester hour per week in the form of seminars, exercises or practical courses in the field of Sustainable Maritime Engineering (Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Underwater Technology) whereby the research-based transfer of specialist knowledge and skills to students is central and they are instructed to work scientifically on their own due to the scientific nature of teaching
  • supervise student theses (project, bachelor's, and master's theses) and support the academic advising and mentoring of students at the institute
  • acquire third-party funding
  • publish research results in relevant academic outlets
  • contribute to organizational, planning, and administrative tasks within the institute

THIS MAKES YOU A GOOD FIT:

  • completed university degree (German diploma, master’s degree, or comparable degree) in ocean engineering, naval architecture and marine engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, physics, mathematics, or a comparable field with at least good results
  • desirable are first experience in theoretical and experimental research in the field of ocean engineering
  • interest in and ability to conduct independent scientific work as well as practical experimental investigations in the field of ocean engineering
  • minimum physical aptitude for operating large-scale research equipment (e.g. wind tunnel, circulating water channel, and experimental work in the marine technology laboratories in Rostock, including wind tunnel, circulating channel, pressure tank, and deep-sea tank) as well as for teaching and conducting experiments in the above-mentioned laboratories
  • confident command of the English language, both written and spoken
  • good command of the German language is desirable or willingness to acquire it within a short period
  • willingness to work seriously and with commitment on a project of one's own scientific qualification (doctorate)
  • ability to organize oneself and to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary research team
