We are seeking highly motivated candidates for the newly-established Collaborative Research Center "WETSCAPES 2.0", funded by the German Rearch Foundation (DFG). Doctoral researchers will gain insights into multiple aspects of this interdisciplinary project, building comprehensive knowledge of WETSCAPES 2.0's research themes and specialized expertise in their chosen topic. The integrated research training group "WETSKILLS" provides structured doctoral trainings, preparing participants for excellent career opportunities in academia and industry.

THESE ARE YOUR TASKS:

  • research in the field of soil hydrology on the dynamics of hydrophysical properties and the release of dissolved substances from rewetted peat soils with the aim of obtaining a scientific qualification (doctorate)
  • soil sampling and field measurements (soil water tension, DOC concentration, etc.)
  • laboratory work, including determination of the soil hydraulic/physical properties, method development and soil column experiments
  • evaluation of the data
  • numerical soil hydrological modeling of water fluxes in peat soils
  • publication of research results in peer-reviewed journals
  • active member of the Integrated Research Training Group WETSKILLS and participation in the offered course program

THIS MAKES YOU A GOOD FIT:

  • completed scientific university studies (Master's, diploma or comparable degree) in the fields of geosciences, environmental engineering, agriculture, hydro(geo)logy or a comparable field with at least good results
  • excellent knowledge of soil hydrology and biogeochemistry
  • experience with the simulation of water fluxes in soil (e.g. HYDRUS)
  • willingness to develop and carry out laboratory and field experiments
  • good written and spoken English (the official language of communication within WETSCAPES 2.0 is English)
  • minimal level of physical ability for year-round field work
  • a driver's license is an advantage
  • willingness to work seriously and with commitment on a project for your own scientific qualification (doctorate)
  • high adherence to deadlines, strong communication skills when presenting research results and willingness to work in an interdisciplinary team
