THESE ARE YOUR TASKS:

  • research in the field of structural engineering - particularly on sustainability and resilience of concrete infrastructure - with the aim of scientific qualification (habilitation)
  • academic teaching to the extent of approx. 4 hours per week (SWS) in the form of teaching and exercise courses in the field of structural and construction engineering (tentatively composite structures and repair & strengthening of concrete structures), whereby the focus is on the research-based transfer of specialist knowledge and skills to students and the students are primarily to be instructed to work independently scientifically through the scientific design of the teaching
  • working on research and other third-party funded projects and participating in the application process for research projects
  • undertaking scientific organisational tasks
  • publishing research results

THIS MAKES YOU A GOOD FIT:

  • completed scientific university degree (state examination, diploma, master's or comparable degree) in civil engineering or a related engineering or applied natural sciences
  • completed or nearing completion doctorate in the field of structural engineering or similar/relevant sciences
  • scientific expertise in the following area, proven through scientific publications in indexed/refereed journals or compendiums:
    • innovative structural assessment methods for robustness and reliability under severe events, with emphasis on concrete infrastructures in maritime areas and/or underground
  • experience in the preparation of research proposals and in the acquisition of third-party funding
  • experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable
    • Digital methods and automations in civil engineering (e.g. modular or robotised construction, artificial intelligence, computational statistics and machine learning in conjunction with non-linear FE modelling
    • Quantification of risk and quality under uncertainty
    • Sustainable structural repairs and upgrades for service life extension
  • experience and willingness to teach and, in connection with this, a good command of German and English in writing and speaking
  • willingness to achieve, ability to work in a team and confident demeanour, independent and proactive way of working
  • willingness to work with commitment and dedication towards the realisation of own scientific qualification
