Technical experts have a central role within WETSCAPES 2.0, which is an interdisciplinary research project, that is relying on comprehensive data sets as obtained from multiple experimental field sites. Technical experts are fully integrated into the research teams and are responsible for the installation and maintenance of electronic field equipment, including data storage.

THESE ARE YOUR TASKS:

  • reparing, setting up and maintaining the network for recording environmental parameters in fens in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
  • adapting measurement technology for sending sensor data to determine environmental parameters (e.g. soil/air temperatures, water level, irradiation)
  • administration of data transmission and integration into the existing research data structure
  • installing/constructing, maintaining and servicing eddy covariance systems for recording greenhouse gas fluxes and the associated peripherals (e.g. solar modules for power supply)
  • preparing raw data from eddy covariance measurements to calculate greenhouse gas fluxes using standardized processing scripts
  • coordinating field work
  • accurate and comprehensible documentation of data collection and processing steps
  • participation in project meetings

THIS MAKES YOU A GOOD FIT:

  • completed university degree (FH diploma, Bachelor's degree or comparable degree) in measurement technology, (environmental) engineering or comparable fields
  • experience in the supervision of scientific field technology
  • relevant experience with regard to engineering challenges (eddy covariance technology or automation of sensor networks) is desirable
  • a good command of written and spoken English / basic knowledge of German or the willingness to acquire this in a short period of time
  • minimal level of physical ability to conduct field work in peatlands
  • ability to drive university cars (German class B driver's license or equivalent)
  • communication and teamwork skills for work in interdisciplinary working groups
