  • ab initio calculation of the properties of warm dense matter by using molecular dynamics simulations based on density functional theory (DFT-MD)
  • calculation of the equation of state and of transport properties of ice-rock mixtures as building blocks of Neptune-like planets
  • allocation of data tables for applications in planetary physics, in particular for water-peridotit mixtures
  • support in the preparation and evaluation of experimental campaigns at high-power laser and free electron laser facilities
  • publishing of research results in high-impact journals
  • coordination of the collaboration with partner institutions (HZDR, European XFEL, LULI Palaiseau, ARCO Raanana)
  • structuring the theory program in the startup phase of the High Energy Density Initiative (HEDI) Rostock until 12/2026

THIS MAKES YOU A GOOD FIT:

  • completed university degree (state examination, diploma, master's degree or comparable degree) in Theoretical Physics or similar subjects with at least good results
  • completed or about to completed doctorate in Theoretical Physics or a similar subject area with at least good results
  • good knowledge of quantum theory, computational physics and programming languages like C and Python
  • experience with ab initio simulations based on, e.g., Density Functional Theory is expected
  • experience with machine learning tools is welcome
